Online Airborne Surveys Index Database

Interface of the Online Airborne Surveys Database

Geoscience Australia is the custodian of the most comprehensive publicly available Australian airborne magnetic, gamma-ray, elevation model and electromagnetic databases.

The Airborne Geophysics Database contains approximately 17 million line kilometres of data from over 890 surveys.

The Online Airborne Surveys Index Database contains the specifications of each Commonwealth/State Government airborne geophysical survey. It shows three windows - one that can be queried, one showing results of the query and one showing the survey boundaries on a map of Australia.

The new online database gives the user improved functionality when querying the database and is an advance on the Windows program Aeromap. All online queries interrogate the database in real-time, compared to Aeromap which returns information from queries on a static stand-alone database file supplied on a CD. Aeromap will continue to be supported.

Tanami airborne geophysical data release

Tanami airborne geophysical data

Airborne geophysical data over the west Tanami region of Western Australia are being jointly released by the Geological Survey of Western Australia and Geoscience Australia on 17 February 2003.

New data in this release include magnetic, gamma-ray and elevation located data and grids covering the Billiluna 1:250 000 Sheet area and parts of the Gordon Downs and Lucas 1:250 000 Sheet areas.

The Tanami region is one of the most exciting new gold provinces in Australia. Since the mid 1980s over ten million ounces of gold have been discovered in the region straddling the border of Western Australia and the Northern Territory.

The Tanami airborne geophysical data include new survey data and data previously acquired by private companies.

  • The digital data are available on CD-ROM from Geoscience Australia at a cost of A$99 per CD (including GST; packing and postage extra).

    To purchase the data contact:
Geoscience Australia Sales Centre, GPO Box 378, Canberra, ACT, 2601, Australia, 02 6249 9519 (Ph), 02 6249 9982 (FAX) or online at Sales Centre.

  • A colour hardcopy map of the airborne magnetic data at 1:500 000 scale is available from the Geological Survey of Western Australia at a cost of A$27.50 per map (including GST; packing and postage extra).

To purchase the colour map contact:

Queensland airborne magnetic data and map release

Queensland airborne magnetic data and mapA levelled airborne magnetic grid over the entire onshore Queensland area and offshore is being jointly released by the Geological Survey of Queensland and Geoscience Australia on 17 February 2003. The composite grid has a resolution of 250m.

An enhanced magnetic pixel-image map (A0 size) of the same area at 1:2 500 000 scale is also being released.

The Queensland airborne magnetic composite grid includes data acquired by the Geological Survey of Queensland and Geoscience Australia, as well as data acquired by private companies and now in the public domain.

  • The digital grid data are available on CD-ROM from Geoscience Australia at a cost of A$99 per CD (including GST; packing and postage extra). The data are also available from the Geological Survey of Queensland (price on application).
  • The colour hardcopy map is available from Geoscience Australia and the Geological Survey of Queensland at a cost of A$41.47 per map (including GST; packing and postage extra).
