            Resourcesat-1 (IRS-P6) products now available

Satellite image products from the Resourcesat-1 (IRS-P6) satellite are now available from selected Geoscience Australia Earth Observation distributors. Initially, images are available from the LISS-III sensor, providing four spectral bands and a spatial resolution of 23.5 metres. Images from the AWiFS sensor will also be available in the near future.

From February 2008, considerable amounts of Resourcesat-1 data were collected over Australia. These have been processed into a standard set of user-ready products. This processed data is available for immediate delivery from the following Resourcesat-1 (IRS-P6) distributors:

Most data delivery will occur through these distributors, although some data will be distributed directly to key government clients.

The Resourcesat-1 satellite operator recently notified us that power limitations may reduce the amount of data collected by the satellite in 2009. We are working through the level of impact this may have on our acquisition plans.

The following links provides you with information on the Resourcesat-1 satellite and sensor specifications; Resourcesat-1 price list; and Resourcesat-1 distributor contact details.

3rd ALOS Joint Principal Investigator Symposium

Registrations are now open to attend the 3rd Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) Principal Investigator Symposium in November 2009. This annual symposium is an excellent forum for ALOS researchers and investigators of data applications to present the results of their work.

Following the launch of ALOS in January 2006, a global archive of more than two million scenes of image data has been acquired. The satellite provides high quality, low cost Earth observation data and is an alternative source of data and a level of back-up to the Landsat series of satellites.

Geoscience Australia has a formal role with the ALOS Mission as the Oceania Node in the ALOS Data Node Framework. The ALOS earth observation mission provides a unique set of data, including high resolution stereo panchromatic, multispectral and L Band SAR data acquired by the PRISM, AVNIR-2 and PALSAR instruments respectively.

More details about the ALOS mission and products can be found at Satellites and Sensors.
