The city of Warrnambool is located in southwest Victoria at the western end of the Great Ocean Road. These images were acquired from the Landsat 5 Thematic Mapper sensor. True and false colour images for both a recent (2009), and an older (1988) scene are available below in high resolution JPEG format.

Warrnambool Warrnambool

In this true colour swipe comparison, colours appear as close as they would naturally to the human eye. Urban areas appear grey to white, trees and grasslands as shades of green and yellow, and water bodies as dark blue to black. Residential expansion of Warrnambool has occurred predominately to the west in Dennington, and in the northwest above Albert Park Reserve. Similarly, rural residential development has been in the surrounding small towns such as Bushfield. Industrial and Business development has been mainly concentrated in the west, just below Dennington. Also notice the construction of a Deakin University campus on the banks of the Hopkins River.

In these false colour images, the urban extents of Warrnambool are highlighted in cyan and white. Grassland appears as shades of orange to red, with drier vegetation appearing lighter. Barren soil appears yellow to brown. Water bodies appear dark blue/green to black.
