Try the new Google Maps version
the Cocos (Keeling) Islands GIS online

This mapping system allows the user to display from a selection of themes, zoom in and out, pan, and view the attributes of displayed themes.

  • The list of available themes is at the right of the map page. To display a theme, refer to the checkbox beside the theme's name. Click Refresh Map to apply changes to theme selection.

Note: Some themes display only within a particular scale range.
  • Basic navigation is done using the features at the side of the map:
  • DROP DOWN MAPS:
Pre-defined maps can be accessed selecting one of the options provided in this drop down box.
    VIEW LAYERS AND OBTAIN INFORMATION:
The information buttons on the right can be used to gain information about either a specific point or a larger area by drawing a bounding box around the section of interest. Information about the selected point or area will then be displayed in a pop-up window.
  • The reference map in the bottom right hand corner of the screen shows the location of the view (displayed as a yellow rectangle) in relation to the full map.
  • The minimum scale at which a map will draw is 1:500 while the maximum scale at which a map will draw is 1:40,000.
  • Click on a theme name to display the metadata for a specific theme. Use the browsers Back button to return to the map. The metadata link below the map includes metadata for themes not included on the map.
  • The Key link will display the key for a specific theme in a popup window. This key shows the colours of all displayed themes and their associated label values.
  • The map page is best viewed at 1024 x 768 resolution, with at least 32,768 colours.
