General

  • Q. Can I purchase geothematic products from a local distributor?
    A. Yes, the Western Australia Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources and the Queensland Department of Natural Resources and Mines stock a limited range of Geoscience Australia maps for their state.

  • Q. Where else can I purchase Australian geoscience maps and publications?
    A. State and Territory Geological Surveys have completed mapping programs in areas not covered by Geoscience Australia maps, or they may have maps of the area you are interested in at higher resolutions (1:100 000 or 1:50 000). Airborne Geophysical Products

  • Q. What areas does the data cover?
    A. Project coverage extents can be found on Airborne Geophysical Surveys available in Microsoft Access, Adobe PDF, MapInfo and ArcView formats.

  • Q. Can I buy magnetic and radiometric data for a 1: 100 000 map sheet area?
    A. No, data is sold only on a project basis. All the data available for each project is provided and may include magnetic, radiometric and elevation data in point located and grid format.

  • Q. What format is the data in?
    A. Data is in point located ASCII format or ER Mapper grids. Regional data sets (line spacing of >1500m) are not available as grids.

  • Q. Do you have national coverages of magnetic and gravity grids?
    A. Yes, we sell the Magnetic Anomaly Map of Australia and the Australian National Gravity Database on CD for $99 each. These data are also available for download free of charge from our web site.

Geophysical Maps / Images

  • Q. What type of images do you sell?
    A. Pixel images, contour maps, profiles and survey flightline maps are available for magnetic and radiometric data.

  • Q. Do you have pixel images for all datasets?
    A. No. there is a limited range of pixel images available. Contact the Sales Centre to discuss your requirements.

  • Q. Do you have digital versions of images?
    A. Yes, some images are available as .bil format files. Contact the Sales Centre to discuss your requirements.

Digital Geology

  • Q. What map sheets do you have digital geology for?
    A. There is a full listing of digital geology on this web site.

  • Q. What format is data in?
    A. Geoscience Australia uses ARCINFO as our native format. Some coverages have been translated into MAPINFO and ARCVIEW.

  • Q. Can you translate ARCINFO coverages into MAPINFO for me?
    A. No, we suggest you contact a private bureau for this type of work.

Geological Maps

  • Q. Do you have maps for all of Australia?
    A. No, our mapping coverage is incomplete. State geological surveys may have the maps you require.

  • Q. Do you have any groundwater maps?
    A. Yes, we have groundwater maps for some areas of the eastern states, in particular there is a series of 1:250 000 maps for the Murray River Basin.

  • Q. Do you have any soils maps?
    A. No, we do not sell soils maps. You should contact CSIRO Division of Soils in Adelaide on (08) 83038539.

  • Q. Do you have any maps for Papua New Guinea?
    A. No, we only sell maps of Australia.

Research Publications

  • Q. Can I buy old "out of print" publications?
    A. We can usually arrange for a reprint of the original material. This is done through an external print bureau and we will pass on the cost of reproduction.

  • Q. Do you have digital versions of publications?
    A. Some of our latest publications are available from our web site in Adobe PDF format for download free of charge.
