Standard metadata and vocabularies for our data catalogue
At Geoscience Australia we have an enterprise data catalogue, eCat, where data products can be found. This catalogue uses a metadata profile based on the ISO 19115:2014 standard which allows us to describe our data using an agreed community standard. We are also standardising the geoscience keywords to better enable search of the catalogue.
Information about the Geoscience Australia catalogue platform, metadata profile and schema used in eCat, and the vocabularies used across Geoscience Australia, are available via the Definitional resource register or via the following links:
ISO19115-3:2016 Metadata Profile Validator
Metadata are stored as XML documents conforming to ISO 19115-3:2016, the standardised XML schema representation of ISO 19115-1:2014. The ISO 19115-3:2016 Metadata Profile Validator is an online tool for users to validate individual XML metadata records against the ISO19115-3:2016 schema and GA Profile.
Previous version
The previous version of the Geoscience Australia metadata profile is an extension of the ANZLIC Metadata Profile, a standard used widely in the Australian and New Zealand spatial community. The ANZLIC Metadata Profile is a profile of ISO 19115:2005 which has been superseded by ISO 19115-1:2014. Metadata are stored as XML documents conforming to ISO 19139:2007, the standardised XML schema representation of ISO 19115:2005.
- Legacy catalogue standards ANZLIC Metadata Profile and Geoscience Australia Community Metadata Profile of ISO 19115:2005
- Superseded Metadata Profile Validator, for validation of ISO19139:2007 XML documents against the ANZLIC and Geoscience Australia profiles of ISO 19115:2005
