Geoscience Australia is currently undertaking a stocktake of the National and Mineral Collection, as such loan requests may not be fulfilled until the stocktake is complete.

Geoscience Australia lends material for research, education, and geoscience promotion purposes. Material available for loan includes gem, mineral, meteorite and fossil specimens, as well as rock thin sections and palaeontological slides.

Loan requests should include the specimen(s) requested, the reasons for the loan, what the item(s) will be used for, and the organisation responsible for the loan. Loans are not made for periods greater than 12 months.

All outgoing loans must be agreed to in advance, and a loan agreement signed prior to the loan being released.

Loan requests must be made in writing, and may be sent via email to clientservices@ga.gov.au.
