Information Publication Scheme
Last updated:17 February 2020
Part II of the Freedom of Information Act 1982 (FOI Act) establishes an Information Publication Scheme (IPS) for Australian Government agencies subject to the FOI Act. The IPS commenced on 1 May 2011 and requires agencies to publish a broad range of information on their websites.
The Australian Information Commissioner has noted that the reforms to the FOI Act promote a pro-disclosure culture across government and build a stronger foundation for greater openness and transparency in government. You can find out more about the Information Publication Scheme on the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner website.
In addition, the Information Publication Scheme (IPS) aims to transform the freedom of information framework from one that responds to individual requests for access to documents to one that requires Commonwealth agencies to take a proactive approach to publishing information.
Geoscience Australia provides the following information in accordance with the IPS and will continue to identify and publish information accessible through this website.
