Four weeks left to become Australia's next Top GeoShot
Published:27 June 2014
Spring is almost here, so why not head outdoors and experience Australia's amazing and unique geology. Take your camera with you for a chance to become Australia's next Top GeoShot.
Geoscience Australia's Top GeoShot photographic competition is one of the highlight events for Earth Science Week 2013. The theme for this year's competition is "Exposed to the Elements"; with entry open to all members of the Australian public.
Geoscience Australia's Education and Events Manager, Vicki Pow said the competition encourages participants to be as creative as they like, while capturing images of Australia's natural beauty.
"We are looking for a collection of photographs that capture the essence of what Earth science means to everyday Australians," Ms Pow added.
Take a photo anywhere in Australia of an unusual geological formation or your favourite landscape and enter it in one of two categories: Open or Student (up to Year 12).
"Last year we received a record number of 191 entries, with the winning entry featuring an amazing aerial shot by Hayley Anderson of flooded rivers in Central Queensland," Ms Pow said.
Photographs will be judged on their creativity and how well they fit with the competition theme. An Overall Winner, a People's Choice, along with an additional 11 winners will be selected to feature in Geoscience Australia's 2014 calendar.
All entries will be displayed in Geoscience Australia's foyer in the lead-up to Earth Science Week (13-19 October 2013), with winners each receiving a professionally framed enlargement of their image.
Entries for the 2013 Top GeoShot competition close on 23 September. Check details, including competition guidelines and how to submit your photo.
