The count-down is on to Geoscience Australia's annual Open Day on Sunday 21 August, when we invite the community along to learn about the exciting and diverse range of work carried out by Australia's national geoscience organisation.
Geoscience Australia's 2016 Open Day will offer free hands-on activities, science displays, talks and fun for all ages. This family focused event provides a great opportunity to showcase our work to the public and to broaden the community's understanding of the importance of geoscience in everyday life. We particularly hope to inspire some of our younger visitors to become our nation's future geoscientists.
Find out how earthquakes are detected, learn how agriculture relies on discovery of precious water resources, discover how satellite technology has revolutionised our ability to access positioning information at the touch of a button, and learn how critical mineral commodities make your smart phone work.
Our work delivers economic, social and environmental benefits for the Australian community by informing decisions about resource use, management of the environment, as well as ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all Australians.
When: 10am - 3pm, Sunday 21 August
Where: Corner of Hindmarsh Drive and Jerrabomberra Avenue, Symonston ACT
