Resourcing Australia's Prosperity Mapping Australia’s resources for a sustainable future

About Resourcing Australia's Prosperity
The landmark Resourcing Australia’s Prosperity initiative is an ambitious endeavour. It will play a key role in unlocking new opportunities to support a thriving and resilient national economy and a Future Made in Australia.
It will use innovative data, research and analysis to assess national potential for a broad range of the resources critical to the net zero transition, supporting a strong resource sector. This initiative focuses on mapping our potential for critical minerals and strategic materials, hydrogen and carbon storage, and offshore renewable energy. It will also map the groundwater systems that support the development of our natural resources, contribute to our water and food security, and bolster our climate resilience.
Resourcing Australia’s Prosperity will drive economic growth and create jobs in the global shift to a net zero economy. By partnering with state and territory governments and our research partners, this initiative also lays the groundwork for a prosperous, competitive and sustainable future.
Resourcing Australia’s Prosperity
Roadmap (2024–34)
After extensive consultations with stakeholders across government, industry, academia and service providers, the Australian government published the initial 10-year roadmap for the Resourcing Australia’s Prosperity initiative, which provides the strategic direction for the first phase of the initiative.
Over the next decade (2024–34), Geoscience Australia will deliver Resourcing Australia’s Prosperity through 4 interrelated components:

GeoInsight
GeoInsight is a digital geological information platform that puts geoscience data and key facts about regions across Australia into the hands of users within minutes.
The system is designed to help users bridge their knowledge gap to access the information they need, producing synthesised reports that include region-based insights on a range of existing and possible future energy and minerals resources. Including hydrogen potential, based on wind and solar energy, as well as critical minerals and strategic materials. For groundwater, basic water quality data are provided along with indications of main bore uses and regional groundwater reliance.
Drawing on information held by Geoscience Australia and external partner organisations, the GeoInsight pilot was developed as part of Geoscience Australia’s Exploring for the Future Program and will continue to be expanded throughout the Resourcing Australia’s Prosperity Initiative.
